Does Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey have a place in the Octagon? It appears as though UFC President Dana White has warmed to the idea.
A longtime detractor of women’s mixed martial arts, White sounds like a man who has had a change of heart. Rousey, who has become one of MMA’s biggest stars over the last year, figures to be at the forefront of any move the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes. A protégé of “Judo” Gene LeBell, Gokor Chivichyan and Jimmy Pedro, the 25-year-old won Olympic bronze in judo in 2008 and has made a seamless transition to the cage. Rousey has finished all six of her professional opponents via first-round armbar, five of them in less than a minute.
Other items of interest on the Sherdog.net forums this week include Anderson Silva’s preference of facing Georges St. Pierre over Jon Jones, a discussion on whether or not Stephan Bonnar took a dive at UFC 153, thoughts on one of the most violent fights in history and a question regarding the legacies of Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
