NR | Joshua Culibao (8-1-1, 0-1-1 UFC) vs. NR | Yilan Sha (17-6, 0-0 UFC)ODDS: Culibao (-250), Sha (+210)
Even if he has yet to notch his first UFC win, Australia’s Culibao has overachieved a bit during his time inside the Octagon. Culibao did not figure to find a great deal of success when he was signed as a late replacement in 2020. While he showed a smart range striking game in his regional fights, he was facing poor competition and figured to be overmatched athletically inside the UFC. While he has been at a clear athletic disadvantage, Culibao has made a go of it in two UFC bouts thus far. If nothing else, he was able to survive against Jalin Turner until an injury turned things sour, and what figured to be a one-sided loss to Charles Jourdain instead wound up as an entertaining back-and-forth draw. Here, Culibao welcomes Sha to the UFC, as the “Wolverine” marks the promotion’s latest signing out of China. Sha has looked solid in his wins and figures to have an athletic advantage, but his record does raise some questions as far as how he will fare against a step up in competition. While his slate of victories is not terrible, any clear step up in competition has subsequently resulted in a loss. He could still finish Culibao, but the Australian has proven to be enough of a gamer to survive. The pick is Culibao via decision.
