By the Numbers: UFC Vegas 102

Even with his 41st birthday on the horizon, Jared Cannonier still has plenty left in the tank.

“The Killa Gorilla” weathered a difficult opening stanza against Gregory Rodrigues in the UFC Vegas 102 headliner before rallying for a technical knockout victory 21 seconds into Round 4 of their middleweight bout at the UFC Apex on Saturday night. Cannonier’s main event experience paid off down the stretch, while Rodrigues faded when entering the first championship rounds of his professional tenure.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Vegas 102, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

4: Combined knockdowns in the UFC Vegas 102 main event. Rodrigues scored a pair in Round 1, when he appeared on the verge of putting his veteran opponent away. However, Cannonier rallied, flooring Rodrigues at the end of the third round and again early in Round 4 to seal his victory.

5: KO/TKO victories for Cannonier at 185 pounds, tying him for the most among active middleweights.

8: UFC main events for Cannonier since moving to middleweight. “The Killa Gorilla” is 5-3 in those bouts.

98: Significant strikes landed by Cannonier. By comparison, Rodrigues landed 93. Cannonier did some key work in close quarters, outlanding his opponent 20 to 8 in the clinch and 9 to 0 on the ground.

2-5: Record for Cannonier in fights in which he has suffered at least one knockdown. Prior to Saturday night, the only other fight he had won in those situations was against Derek Brunson at UFC 273.

36: Significant strikes by which Youssef Zalal outlanded Calvin Kattar in their featherweight co-main event. Zalal did his best work over the first 10 minutes, when he outlanded his foe by a 53-to-18 count.

.550: Significant striking accuracy for Zalal, who landed 74 of 133 attempts. Kattar was much less accurate, landing 38 of 134 attempts for a 28% success rate.

1-5: Record for Kattar since 2021. In addition to Zalal, “The Boston Finisher” has fallen to Max Holloway, Josh Emmett, Arnold Allen and Aljamain Sterling during that time.

5: First-round finishes for Edmen Shahbazyan in UFC competition. Shahbazyan added to his list on Saturday, as he needed just seven significant strikes to vanquish Dylan Budka at the 1:35 mark of Round 1 in their featured middleweight showdown.

8: Victories at middleweight since 2021 for Andre Petroski, who outpointed Rodolfo Vieira in a featured 185-pound affair. That figure ties Petroski with Brendan Allen and Dricus Du Plessis for the most in the division during that timeframe.

10: Takedowns defended by Petroski. His Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt opponent landed his lone takedown in Round 3 and was able to only secure 1:50 of control time over 15 minutes.

12: UFC wins at strawweight for Angela Hill, most in division history. Hill, who took a split verdict over Ketlen Souza on Saturday, also holds the record for most total fights in UFC strawweight history (26).

13: UFC wins overall for Hill, tying her with Raquel Pennington and Valentina Shevchenko for third most among all women in the promotion. Only Jessica Andrade (17) and Amanda Nunes (16) have won more.

1-4: Record for Hill in UFC bouts that have ended in a split-decision verdict. Prior to Saturday, Hill had lost split decisions against Amanda Lemos, Michelle Waterson-Gomez, Claudia Gadelha and Cortney Casey in the Octagon.

8: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 10 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the fight to Souza. Judges Michael Bell and Sal D’Amato saw things differently, submitting 29-28 tallies in favor of Hill.

86: Significant strikes landed by Hill. By comparison, Souza landed 70. Hill outlanded her opponent 28 to 15 in Round 1 and 42 to 32 in Round 2, while Souza held a 23-to-15 advantage in Round 3.

11: Takedowns landed in 19 attempts by Rafael Estevam in a unanimous decision triumph over Jesus Santos Aguilar at flyweight. That ties him with Cody Durden for the fifth most landed in a single 125-pound bout in UFC history. Estevam also logged 9:22 of control time in victory.

13: Submission triumphs among 17 professional wins for Gabriel Bonfim. The Brazilian put Kalinn Williams to sleep with a brabo choke 4:58 into the second round of their welterweight matchup. Bonfim has secured three of his four UFC triumphs by way of submission.

.220: Striking accuracy Williams, who struggled to find the range while landing just 20 of his 90 significant strike attempts.

4: Combined submission attempts for Elijah Smith (one) and Vince Morales (three) in their preliminary bantamweight clash. Smith and Morales each executed two reversals in a bout that featured plenty of scrambles on the canvas. Ultimately, Smith landed the more damaging blows on the feet to emerge with a unanimous decision triumph.

2: Heel hook submission victories in UFC competition for Valter Walker, who has used the maneuver to score back-to-back wins over Don’Tale Mayes and Junior Tafa. To put that in perspective, there have only been five heel hook finishes in UFC heavyweight history overall.
